Goldstar Transport Australian Made Freighter Semi Trailers

On the 75th anniversary of Freighter, one of Western Australia’s leading transport and logistics businesses, Goldstar Transport, looks back at how Freighter has been helping them deliver exceptional services in WA and interstate for years.

Over ten years ago when Freighter first introduced its Safe-T-Liner with load restraint rated curtain system to the Australian market, Perth-based Goldstar Transport was one of the first businesses to try it out.

“We were one of the first users of Freighter’s Safe-T-Liner trailers. Our drivers instantly embraced the improved ease of operation of these curtains, especially on the bulk pallet routes where they no longer had to constantly use buckles and straps during each drop,” Goldstar Transport MD Sean Carren says.

“Freighter trailers are one of the best in the market. The finish is good. We have every model of Freighter trailers including flat tops, T-liner, load hold, drop decks, drop decks with ramps, AutoHold and Safe-T-Liner. We are also Freighter’s biggest customer for Safe-T-Liner trailers for FMCG haulage in Australia."

With the removal of buckles and the inclusion of load restraint rated curtains, the Safe-T-Liner delivers a significant efficiency increase from the time saved when accessing the load space.

This year Freighter marks an important milestone in its successful journey – it was 75 years ago that the first Freighter products were launched in Australia. For Freighter, its success has been driven through the customers who have partnered with the brand over the years. A commitment to continue pushing the boundary of local trailer manufacturing excellence that benefits local operators is at the heart of Freighter’s strong legacy.

“The team at Freighter is great and they do a great job for us. They back up the brand. They are an intricate part of the success of our business. Among my fleet of nearly 400 vehicles and equipment, there are over 100 prime movers, 20 plus rigid trucks and 220 trailers, out of which a large majority are from Freighter,” Sean says.

Over 16 years ago when he founded Goldstar Transport, Sean was focussed on building a strong team, providing safe and responsible service to clients and tailoring freight services to meet innovative needs. “It’s a people business. Our people are at the heart of what we value. We recognise the value that our people bring and seek to develop our team to the maximum of their potential and as a transport industry professional. We pride ourselves on offering excellent training to our team. That is one area we have really focused on – training our people in the past nearly two decades,” he says.

“The other thing that hasn’t changed is our commitment towards quality equipment and where we source our equipment from. We have been Freighter customers for the past nearly 16 years and have been buying these trailers from the same people since then. It is a testament to Freighter and the job they put into selling really good equipment.”

Goldstar specialises in all aspects of goods, equipment and machinery transportation. It recently took delivery of 10 new Freighter flat top semi-trailers for its mining supply haulage needs. “We are constantly renewing the fleet and Freighter is always the brand of choice when we go to do that. I really appreciate the exceptional support they have provided us over the years and continue to do that to this day,” Sean says.

“Not that there have been many issues with these trailers but on occasion we have had any issue with a trailer, Freighter and the team have been great in fixing it up quickly.”

Sean and his team continue to set new standards for safe, reliable and timely service across WA – from Pilbara in the north to Albany and Esperance in the south, in addition to interstate transport. Last year, Goldstar Transport was awarded ‘Woolworths Carrier of the Year – Small Carrier Category’ for the second time.

“After winning it earlier in 2016, we won it again in 2020, which was a fantastic achievement for our people and it recognises the good work that we do. Our intricate understanding of our customer’s businesses, coupled with the ability to work with and manage volume spikes and seasonal demands, make these achievements possible,” he says. Having a quality fleet that relies heavily on the trusted support of Freighter certainly helps along the journey.
